Medimpex was established in 1949 in order to carry out exclusively the export and import of the Hungarian pharmaceutical products and to satisfy the demand of the Hungarian health service. Until the beginning of the 1980s it worked as an independent foreign trading company for pharmaceuticals. At the end of 1982 a limited company was set up with participation of the six major pharmaceutical factories: Alkaloida, Biogal, Chinoin, Egis, Reanal, Gedeon Richter and Pharmatrade as well as with that of the company of the pharmaceutical industry specialised on supply and stock building of raw materials. Following the economic changes at the beginning of the 1990s Medimpex carried on its activity as a limited liability company and in 1991 it became a shareholding company with a well-trained staff working successfully both on the domestic market and in its network operating worldwide. Therefore Medimpex was able to conduct reliable and successful trading despite the changes in the circle of owners. At this time Medimpex started the marketing of health products of a wider range: bandages, surgical instruments, medical appliances, curative cosmetics and vitamin preparations. Development of its own warehouse with up-to-date storage facilities significantly contributed to the extension of partnerships on a contractual basis.

From 1996 on some significant changes took place in the structure of the Company: the parent company was divided into further three firms and its offices abroad continued operating under their former owners. This resulted partly in the simplification of the owners’ circle, partly in a more efficient activity of the single branches. The parent company, Medimpex Trading Co. Ltd. became the property of Egis Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and is regarded as a financial investment.

The successful business activity of the Company is based on the export-import deals and the different commercial services.
